I was recently awarded a Gold Key at the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards 2009..(along with about 300+ students) however, with this my piece was hung on display in the Boston Transportation Building. Any who, being from a small town, a journalist from the local paper emailed a few questions too each person who won an award.. with that I realized how much information about my work I haven't told everyone.. so with that here are the questions and answers.. Enjoy!
Name: Jessica Cate *
Age: 16
Grade: Junior (11th)
Resident of: Concord
Medium of choice/medium of piece submitted: Hand-colored Photograph
Interests: Photography, Theater, Films, and Music
Future plans: I plan to continue photographing throughout my entire life. It has become so much a part of me, I couldn't see life the way I do if I hadn't seen it through a lens.
Why did you submit this piece? It is an interesting photograph, it captures innocence in a mystical sort of way. I used a lot of different processes to see which one best suited the piece, it just so happened all it needed was some color.
Tell us something about yourself as an artist, such as how you got started or where you look for inspiration?
Well, I used to model for my older sister while she took photography, and after her, I started doing candle lit photographs. I experimented with this for a while, before moving on to straight portraits. I took portraits of those I knew, and found that I like adding elements of nature. Whether it be leaves, grass, or berries from a tree, I always try to incorporate something else within the picture.
* I refuse to let my real last name be on the internet for security purposes

But thank you! and you two are so cute!
